Festival Feelings.

It has been an eventful festival weekend, yet amidst the partying came a moment of great reflection and a new lesson learned.

I met a fellow Irish woman at the bar who shared with me seemingly exciting news; her return to Ireland with her husband after 15 years in London.

She confessed how terrified she was though and how she was filled with massive anxiety about all the unknowns that awaited her. “I know I always look on the worst side of things” she said, “imagining all that could go wrong, but I just don’t know what is going to happen”.

Her story resonated with me, as I myself am going through a period of great change and uncertainty, both in my career and love life. My whole world as I currently know it is set to transform. But, there is one key difference. I do not hold the fear that my dear new friend does. I am actually excited.

“Always believe something wonderful is about to happen!”

I hold a fundamental belief that with all change comes great opportunity, so the greater the change in my life, the more excited I become in anticipation of what incredible opportunities lie ahead. Will there be obstacles, set backs and challenges along the way? Absolutely there will. But I welcome them. They will force me to grow and develop in the areas that I most need improvement. It is not always easy to see this as you are experiencing it but with a strong belief like this, it acts as a guiding star, to keep you on track and out of fear.

You see, two people can be faced with the exact same situation, yet have significantly different experiences. One fears the uncertainly and the other embraces it. It’s not a matter of ‘being positive’ but rather the beliefs we hold.

Whether true or not, my belief that great change creates great opportunity, empowers me to embrace the uncertainty of things to come. Sure, I could choose to be afraid and get swallowed up by all that could go wrong, but that doesn’t serve me. It feels awful. So why put myself through it? You must remember that we do have control over the thoughts we think and emotions we feel. It may take some work but we absolutely can master this.

If you are facing some big changes in your life right now, ask yourself this, what empowering belief could I tell myself to make this experience more enjoyable? Once you uncover it, begin immersing yourself in it. Repeat it aloud first thing when you wake up. Write it down on a piece of paper and carry it around with you. Do whatever works best for you to encourage that new thought, this new belief to sink deep into the depths of your mind.

Life is a wonderful journey and you can decide at any time to turn the page and start a new chapter. Promise yourself now, to make this the best one yet.
